FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions, or questions that might become the former. Questions about how to use the application are referred to the user guide that is included in the download packages (currently only in Swedish, use the forum if you have any problems).

What is RBEditor™?
A roadbook editing software. A roadbook is a form of notes telling you how to drive a certain route. RBEditor™ is primarily designed for creating roadbooks for motorcyclists but you decide how to use it.
Is RBEditor™ free?
Yes. RBEditor™ does not cost a penny. For more detailed info read the license.
If you want to show your appreciation you can invite me to the events you have used this application for. If I can, I'll be there. Feel free to drop me a line and let me know what you think about the software.
I can't figure out how to use this application. Is there any documentation?
When you download the application a user guide is included as a PDF-file guiding you through different tasks and features. (The user guide is currently only available in Swedish. Use the forum instead.)
How do you learn navigating by roadbook?
To become good on navigating by roadbook you need practice, i.e. participate in as many roadbook rallies/events as you can. It's pretty much like anything else in life. To get good at something you need to do three things: practice, practice and practice.
When I try to run RBEditor™ it crashes instantly and a file called hs_err_pid1234.txt something is created.
This is probably caused by a misconfigured java runtime on your computer or problems with the computer's settings/registry. A common reason is corrupt fonts installed on the computer. Try to reinstall java if you installed it separately or reinstall the full package if you used that option. If the problem remains you can try running RBEditor™ in "Safe Mode", or with the -s flag from the system prompt. Example.: ~:>java -jar RBEditor.jar -s. This will not solve your computer's problem but you might be able to run the application.
A file called errlog.txt has been created, does that mean something is wrong?
No, not necessarily. The errlog.txt file is automatically created the first time you run RBEditor™. It logs errors and an entry every time you run the application. An example log file without errors might look like this:

2003-okt-01 11:13:53 java.util.logging.LogManager$RootLogger log
INFO: Application started. Logging initialized.
2003-okt-01 12:24:36 java.util.logging.LogManager$RootLogger log
INFO: Application started. Logging initialized.

Should the log be significantly different an error probably has occurred. Go to Development to see how you report your results and errors. By reporting the errors or flaws you find you can help bringing the development of this application forward.
Is there a limit on how large roadbooks I can make?
There is no built in limit. It mainly depends in the performance of you computer but if you are working with a roadbook consisting of several hundreds WPs it might be a good idea splitting it up into more than one roadbook.
I want to test a beta release but I don't know anything about java.
To test a beta release you do not even need to know it is written in java. If you do not want to, or can not, install java separately, just install the full package. Then download the beta release and unzip it. Replace the file RBEditor.jar located in the previous install directory with the one you just unzipped. After that you can just run RBEditor™ as usual with the difference that the beta release will be started instead.
